Anna Ruby Falls

Anna Ruby falls is a beautiful rare twin waterfall just a short piece north of the small alpine town of Helen GA.

The falls are formed by Curtis and York Creek from Tray Mountain which is behind Anna Ruby Falls. Curtis and York were settlers who owned the land above the falls. The twin falls form Smith Creek, which is named by a surveyor for an early settler who owned land further south.

The falls were named after the daughter of a wealthy White County resident who owned much of the land in the area at the time, John H. Nichols.

Many visitors to Helen, GA take the short trip through Unicoi state park to get into the federally managed area and pay a small fee for parking and spend the day walking the trails.

Lion's Eye trail is a short, easy paved nature trail that is designed for people who are physically or visually impaired. Many signs line the trail and point out types of trees and such in the area. It's a great trail for kids, families and seniors.

The Anna Ruby Falls trails is a 0.8 mile (round trip) paved trial that the average person can easily trek in approx 15 minutes. Rock benches line the trail, making it easy for those who wish to take a leisurely stroll to the falls.

At the top of the trail near the waterfalls, hikers will find 2 observation decks, lined with benches for rest and for taking in the beautiful scenery.

For serious outdoor types there is another 4.6 mile, the Smith Creek Trail, starts near the falls and travels up and over Hickory Nut Ridge and Smith Mountain.

Anna Ruby Falls has something for everyone and is a beautiful place to spend the day reveling the wonders of God's creation.

Contributor's Note

My husband and I spent a large part of the day at Anna Ruby Falls on a vacation 2/23/2008.
The cost this day was $1/person.
All photos were taken by me during this trip.
